Over 10,000 school groups visit Fort Fisher every year to learn about the American Civil War in North Carolina. These photos were recently taken of students from Providence Day School in Charlotte, NC. Two site staff members, Jessica Sutton and John Moseley, are dressed in authentic Confederate artillery uniforms and had great fun explaining how the bronze 12 pounder was loaded and fired. Then the students got to “take implements” and see for themselves how hard it is to load and fire artillery from the Civil War period. (Photos courtesy of Paul Laird)
